Alcoholism among Teenagers

Addictions know no boundaries and preferences. It could affect anyone else, young and old alike, whether you are rich or poor. This fact is supported by recent statistics of people admitted to various California drug rehab centers seeking alcohol addiction treatment.

Alcoholism is an addiction characterized by consumption of high quantity of alcoholic drinks and is manifested in several alcoholism symptoms aside from the obvious smell of alcohol in the alcoholic’s breath.

Alcohol rehab centers notice that teenagers are easy prey to alcohol addiction. Teenagers are often held back by strong peer pressure and desire to belong to a crowd. These persons often think of drinking alcohol as a cool stuff and a sign of maturity.

Alcoholism teenager may also develop as a result of the kind of family teenagers belong to. As expected, teenagers whose parents are both alcoholics are more likely to become alcoholics at a young age. Teenagers who do not have healthy relationships with their parents may also end up in alcoholism as a form of rebellion.

Parents and family can do so much to help solve this problem among the youth and the teenagers, in particular. Prevention and treatment for alcoholism will not only save relationships and family ties as well as the good name of the family. Preventing alcohol addiction will also lessen the rate of school drop outs as well as cases of juvenile delinquency.
