Prescription Drug Abuse

There is an alarming increase of prescription drug abuse cases throughout the world. Countless teenagers are losing their health to prescription drugs that are accessible in homes and can be easily purchased over the counter.

Teenagers are most likely to be addicted to pain relievers, cough syrups and stimulants that can be easily bought from drugstores and are usually found in medicine cabinets inside the home. Depressants, or downers, are also among the type of prescription drugs most commonly abused.

California drug rehabs say that while there are several causes that could trigger drug abuse, most youngsters end up with prescription drug addiction because of the deceiving effect these medicines could give them. Depressants which are used to arrest insomnia and anxiety in patients most often end up used without the doctor’s prescription. Pain relievers or analgesics, on the other hand, are almost always readily available in all homes.

Drug addiction, whether with illicit drugs or prescription drugs, needs to be addressed. If not given treatment, this disorder could result to several illnesses, or worse, even death. The good thing however, is that there are various prescription drug addiction treatment centers that are ready to welcome substance abusers and help them lead better lives away from drugs.
